Inevitable

First single · out October 23, 2026

From the book The Day After

The night I stopped trying to hold up a sunset that was never mine to hold, and turned around to find the sun coming up on the other side.

Lyrics

I used to stand out on the porch and try to hold the sun up in the sky
Arms up, all night, like I could stop the light from saying goodbye
But it was going down before I got there, it was going down when I was gone
The sun don't check who's watching, it just does what it's always done
And I'm the one who's tired, and I'm the one who's cold
Holding up a sky that was never mine to hold

So I put my arms down. Let it fall.
Turns out the night was never about me at all.

It's inevitable, like the sun going down
Inevitable, like the rain hitting ground
Ice in your hand is gonna melt, and the tide is gonna turn
Some things don't need my help, and that's the lesson that I learned
It's inevitable, and I'm free
'Cause the sun that's going down over there is coming up on me

Drop a stone, and it falls. Light a candle, it burns down.
Leaves let go in October, and they don't ask the tree to hang around
So why was I the one out there, arguing with the fall?
Trying to talk the winter out of coming, like it could hear me at all
It wasn't spite, it wasn't war. It's just the way the thing goes.
What was set in motion long ago is gonna land where it goes

I don't need to see it hit the ground
I already know the sound

It's inevitable, like the sun going down
Inevitable, like the rain hitting ground
Ice in your hand is gonna melt, and the tide is gonna turn
Some things don't need my help, and that's the lesson that I learned
It's inevitable, and I'm free
'Cause the sun that's going down over there is coming up on me

And if you're out there on your porch tonight with your arms up in the air
Holding up somebody's sky while they're not even there
Let me save you every year I spent out in the cold
You can't hold up a sunset, and it was never yours to hold
Put your arms down, turn around, there's a whole horizon east
Same sun, different side, and the light is yours at least

The night was never yours to fight
Walk toward the light

I closed the book before the last line, 'cause I could read the last line
And I walked out the door while the light was still fine
Now I'm facing east, and I'm not looking back
Every sunrise I've ever seen came from facing that
And when I hear it's dark back there, and I know one day I will
I'll be standing in the morning, and the morning's brighter still

They called it the last page like it's the end of me
It's the first page of the man I was meant to be
It's inevitable. Watch me.

It's inevitable, like the sun going down
Inevitable, like the rain hitting ground
Ice in your hand is gonna melt, and the tide is gonna turn
Some things don't need my help, and that's the lesson that I learned
It's inevitable, and I'm free
'Cause the sun that's going down over there is coming up on me
It's inevitable (inevitable)
It's inevitable (inevitable)
And I'm free

Water From The Stone

Second single · coming soon

From the book Hi.

You can squeeze a stone all day. It isn't holding out on you; it just doesn't have any water. This is the song about putting it down and walking to the river.

Lyrics

I sang into a canyon, and the echo never came
Lit a candle in the window, no one home to see the flame
I planted everything I had in ground as hard as bone
Year after year of seed and rain, and nothing ever grown

I thought my rain was the problem, thought I hadn't poured enough
But you can flood a field of granite, and it still won't drink it up

You can't get water from a stone
It ain't hiding it, it's got none of its own
So I put it down, put it down, and I'm headed for the river
Where the love flows back to the giver
You can't get water from a stone
And the day I understood it was the day I came home
I put it down, put it down, now my hands are free
And there's a whole lot of water waiting on me

It's a fireplace painted on a wall: looks warm, but gives no heat
A harbor with no water, where no ship could ever sleep
And any rain that falls there runs right off the same
It wasn't my rain. It was never my rain.
The ground don't hate the farmer, the ground is just the ground
And it'll be the same hard ground long after I've left town

I quit asking the desert why it never learned to bloom
I just picked up my seeds, and I walked out of the room

'Cause somewhere there's a garden where the soil is soft and deep
Where what you plant in the morning, by the evening you can reap
Where I call into the canyon, and a voice comes singing back
Where I reach out in the dark, and a hand is reaching back
She'll hear the things I didn't say, she'll catch me when I lean
She'll pour when I am empty, that's a thing I've never seen
And oh, how beautiful, how beautiful it's gonna be
To finally love somebody who knows how to love me

That's the hinge the whole door swings on. Now I know.
It opened up to let me out. It closes as I go.

Look What You Got

From the book After Hi.

A stepper about the things people walk right past every day: the hand in your hand, the seat saved at the table, the morning.

Lyrics

Somebody knows how you take your coffee, and they had it ready when you woke
Somebody laughed at the same old story, like it was the first time you told the joke
Little feet came running to the door tonight before you even set your keys down
That's a welcome-home parade, baby, and it happens every night in your town
You've got a hand to hold in the movie, you've got a name somebody says soft
You've got a seat that's saved at the table, and you walk right past it like it's not

You keep looking out the window for something better down the street
But the whole thing's in the kitchen, and it's sitting at your feet

Look what you got (look what you got)
Somebody loves you, and you ain't even looked
Look what you got (look what you got)
The best thing in your life ain't the thing that you took
It's the morning, it's the laughing, it's the hand that's in your hand
Look what you got, baby, look what you got
Now step with me, and understand
(Look what you got)

It's the phone call at nine just to say "you good?" from a friend who didn't need a thing
It's the whole house smelling like Sunday, it's the sound that a full house brings
It's waking up, and you're still breathing, and somebody's breathing next to you
It's your own two feet on the floor this morning, and they're carrying you through
Nobody's got to be rich for this, this ain't a thing that you buy
It's already in your house, it's already in your life, and it's already in your eyes

They had the whole garden, everything they could need
Nobody took it from them, somebody just planted a seed
A whisper that said "there's more," and they stopped seeing what was there
Baby, don't let a whisper steal a garden. Look around. It's everywhere.
'Cause happy ain't a thing you find, happy is a thing you see
And the minute that you see it, you're as rich as you'll ever be

Somebody love you? (Uh-huh)
Somebody need you? (Uh-huh)
Woke up this morning? (Uh-huh)
Then look what you got. (Look what you got)
Step. (Step.)

(Look around)
(Look what you got)

Rain or Shine

From the book After Hi.

Anybody shows up for the sunshine. This one is for the friend who shows up when it pours, and about being that friend.

Lyrics

When the sky is blue and the money's right, everybody's got your number
Everybody's at the cookout, everybody wants to come up under
But when the clouds roll in and the phone gets quiet, that's when you find out who's who
'Cause a friend who only shows up for the sunshine was never showing up for you
I learned that the hard way, I learned it slow
But I learned it, and now I know

So I'm not counting how many people I know
I'm counting who'll be there when the good times go

Rain or shine, rain or shine
That's the kind of friend I'm gonna be, and that's the kind I'm gonna find
Rain or shine, rain or shine
You show up for me, I show up for you, every single time
When it's pouring down (I'm there)
When the sun comes out (I'm there)
Rain or shine, rain or shine, that's the only kind

Now I'm the one who texts first, "hey, how you been, what's new?"
I'm the one who says "come through Sunday," and I mean it when I do
I remember your mama's name, I remember what you're going through
And when you go quiet for a week, I'm the one who's checking up on you
'Cause that's what somebody did for me when I was down
And you can't repay it, you can only pass it around

So I'm not counting how many people I know
I'm counting who'll be there when the good times go

Rain or shine, rain or shine
That's the kind of friend I'm gonna be, and that's the kind I'm gonna find
Rain or shine, rain or shine
You show up for me, I show up for you, every single time
When it's pouring down (I'm there)
When the sun comes out (I'm there)
Rain or shine, rain or shine, that's the only kind

It's the "I got you" when you didn't even ask
It's the chair they save, it's the call that lasts
It's the one who tells you the truth when it's hard to hear
And still shows up next year, and the year after that year

Rain? (I'm there.)
Shine? (I'm there.)
Rain? (I'm there.)
Every time.

Rain or shine, rain or shine
That's the kind of friend I'm gonna be, and that's the kind I'm gonna find
Rain or shine, rain or shine
You show up for me, I show up for you, every single time
When it's pouring down (I'm there)
When the sun comes out (I'm there)
Rain or shine, rain or shine, that's the only kind
(Rain or shine) That's the only kind

Two Cups

From the book After Hi.

Two cups on the counter. A picture of the morning after the wedding, and everything a real partner is. Not if. When.

Lyrics

She smiles every time she sees me, like she didn't just see me at noon
Meets me at the door with a kiss, and the whole house feels like June
She's up before the sun like me, and she don't need me to explain
Why a grown man's up at five with a notebook and a plan
When I cook, she cleans. When I wash, she folds. That's the rhythm, that's the flow.
Partner, lover, friend, and teammate. Four jobs, one woman. Watch her go.
She's got a life she built before me, so she ain't looking for a rescue
She's looking for a man to build with, and I'm looking for her too

I've been to the stone. I've been to the door.
I know exactly what I'm looking for.

Two cups on the counter, and they're both steaming hot
She pours when I pour, and that's the whole plot
Two cups, two cups, every morning, every day
I say "I do" and she says "I do, but I already did, babe"
Two cups on the counter, that's the life I see
The one who pours back, she's the one for me
(Two cups!) That's my wife
(Two cups!) That's my life

She thinks about me when I'm gone, and I know 'cause my phone lights up
"Just checking on you, baby." That's a text I can't get enough of
She'll come home with a little something, "saw this and thought of you"
That's a woman who was thinking about me the whole time she was out, and it's true
She loves my kids like her own, she loves my mama, she loves my crew
She'll drive me to the doctor, hold my hand, and read the paperwork too
She'll rub my back, she'll rub my feet, and she don't even mind the laundry
When I say "I love you," she says "I know," and then she says it back to me

I planted in dry ground long enough to know
Exactly what it looks like when the garden starts to grow.

I can bring her good news and she'll dance. I can bring her bad news and she'll stay.
I don't have to manufacture affection, it just shows up every day
She respects me, she honors me, and she'd never run my name in the street
And I would never have to wonder who she's with, 'cause she's with me
She says "how's the business?" and she means it, then she asks how she can help
She's the one who brags about my work when I'm too humble to do it myself
She's got the capacity, she's got the well, and it don't run dry
She reciprocates. She loves me back. And that's the reason why

I'm not asking for perfect, I'm asking for present
Somebody who shows up, and calls it a blessing
Somebody who's building something too, so we can build it together
Two whole people, one front door, and the door stays open forever
And I already made room, I already cleared the ground
So whenever she walks in, she's gonna find two cups down

Two cups. (Two cups!) Every morning. (Every morning!)
Two cups. (Two cups!) She pours back. (She pours back!)

(Two cups!) That's my life
(Two cups!) Not if. When.

Can't Wait

From the book After Hi.

A slow one. Noticing everything about her, and counting the hours until eight o'clock.

Lyrics

I noticed the way you fixed your hair before you thought I saw
I noticed you like the window seat, and you take your coffee raw
I've been counting down the hours since you said you'd come at eight
And now it's seven fifty-nine, and baby, I can't wait
But I'm not gonna rush you to the door, I'm gonna take your coat
I'm gonna pull your chair out slow, and hang on every word you spoke

I've got all night, and I've got no plans
But to learn the way you like to be held
And take my time with my hands

I'm in no rush, but I can't wait
To slow dance in the kitchen while the dinner's running late
I'm in no rush, but I can't wait
To hear you laugh at something dumb I said, and watch you touch your face
Take your time, take your time, I'll be right here
I'm in no rush, but baby, I can't wait
(I can't wait)

I put the phone face down, girl, tonight there's only you
I'll listen to the story twice if you want to tell it through
I lit the candles, not because it's what you're supposed to do
But 'cause I wanted to see your face in a light that looks like you
And when you're ready, when you say, I'll come and meet you there
Not a second before, 'cause I want you to know I care

I've got all night, and I've got no plans
But to learn the way you like to be held
And take my time with my hands

I'm in no rush, but I can't wait
To slow dance in the kitchen while the dinner's running late
I'm in no rush, but I can't wait
To hear you laugh at something dumb I said, and watch you touch your face
Take your time, take your time, I'll be right here
I'm in no rush, but baby, I can't wait
(I can't wait)

You don't have to hurry, you don't have to guess
I'm gonna show you every day what I mean when I say yes
Slow, slow, let it be slow
The best things I've ever known took their time to grow
(Took their time, took their time)

Take your time.
I'm not going anywhere.
I've got all night.
And I can't wait.

(No rush)
(I can't wait)

Eight O'Clock

From the book After Hi.

Part two. The doorbell rings and the wait is over.

Lyrics

Eight o'clock. The doorbell rings. And time just stops.
Picture this: I open up the door, and you're the only thing I see
And I already know, before you say a word, that you've been thinking about me
Come on in. Let me take your coat. Feel the warm air on your skin.
You can smell the candles burning, and you already know how this night begins
Notice how your shoulders drop the minute that you're here
That's your body telling you what your mind's been saying all week, my dear

You waited, I waited, and we did it right
And every second that we waited is walking through that door tonight

The wait is over, baby, the wait is over
It's eight o'clock and I'm pulling you closer
No more counting down, no more "maybe soon"
The wait is over, and it's just me and you
(The wait is over)
Take a breath, let it go, you're right where you're supposed to be
The wait is over, baby, and the rest is you and me

Now close your eyes. Feel my hand on the small of your back.
Feel the music in the floor, slow, and let your body relax
Imagine every night that you spent hoping somebody would see you like this
And now you're here, and now I see you, and you're already feeling it
As the song goes on, you'll notice you stopped thinking a while ago
'Cause a woman doesn't have to think when she finally knows

You waited, I waited, and we did it right
And every second that we waited is walking through that door tonight

The wait is over, baby, the wait is over
It's eight o'clock and I'm pulling you closer
No more counting down, no more "maybe soon"
The wait is over, and it's just me and you
(The wait is over)
Take a breath, let it go, you're right where you're supposed to be
The wait is over, baby, and the rest is you and me

Everything I said I'd do, I'm doing it now
Every promise I made you, I'm keeping it now
And I'm gonna keep on keeping it, tomorrow and the next
'Cause the wait was for a reason, and the reason's this

Eight o'clock.
You're here.
I'm here.
Nothing else is.
Let it be slow.
We've got all night, and we've got every night after this.

The wait is over, baby, the wait is over
It's eight o'clock and I'm pulling you closer
No more counting down, no more "maybe soon"
The wait is over, and it's just me and you
(The wait is over)
Take a breath, let it go, you're right where you're supposed to be
The wait is over, baby, and the rest is you and me
(The wait is over)
(It's eight o'clock)

Green Light

From the book Hi.

You must be a valet, the way you took my keys. A song full of lines you could actually say to somebody.

Lyrics

Girl, you must be a valet, the way you took my keys
Walked in the room and now I'm parked, I can't move, I can't leave
You must work at the bank, 'cause you got all my interest
And I'm trying to make a deposit, baby, you can keep the difference
You must be the DMV, 'cause I'll wait all day in this line
You must be a mechanic, 'cause my engine's been fine
Till you walked in, and now it's running hot
And I ain't even mad, girl, give me all you got

I've been sitting at this red light, being patient, being cool
But the way you're looking at me, girl, I think you're changing the rules

Give me the green light, green light
Say the word, and I'm gone
Green light, green light
Baby, I've been idling too long
You got the wheel, you got the keys, you got the say
So give me the green light, and I'll go all the way
(Green light) Go
(Green light) Go

You must be a coach, the way you got me running plays
Drew it up on your napkin, now I'm calling your name
You must be a lawyer, 'cause I'm guilty as charged
Of staring at you all night long, from across the bar
You must be the weatherman, 'cause the forecast is you
Ninety percent chance of me, baby, if you want me to
And I'm not trying to rush, I'm trying to read the signs
So blink twice if you want me to cross that line

I've been sitting at this red light, being patient, being cool
But the way you're looking at me, girl, I think you're changing the rules

Give me the green light, green light
Say the word, and I'm gone
Green light, green light
Baby, I've been idling too long
You got the wheel, you got the keys, you got the say
So give me the green light, and I'll go all the way
(Green light) Go
(Green light) Go

Now I know you've heard it all before
Every man in here has got a line, and you've got a door
But I'm not a line, I'm a whole conversation
So put your hand on mine, and let's skip the hesitation
Yellow means slow down. I can do slow.
But girl, the light just changed. Tell me when to go.

Red light? (No.)
Yellow light? (Slow.)
Green light? (Go!)
Green light? (Go!)

Give me the green light, green light
Say the word, and I'm gone
Green light, green light
Baby, I've been idling too long
You got the wheel, you got the keys, you got the say
So give me the green light, and I'll go all the way
(Green light) Go
(Green light) Go
(Green light) Girl, just say go

From This Day

From the book After Hi.

The wedding-day song. From this day, from this hour, from this minute, from this "I do."

Lyrics

The doors open, and the room goes quiet, and everything I see turns to gold
There's a light around you coming down that aisle, and every eye in here can see it, and every heart knows
I used to stand outside a closed door, now I'm standing at the end of an open one
And you're walking toward me, one step at a time, like the morning walking toward the sun

Feel my hand in yours, notice it's not shaking anymore
'Cause everything we've been waiting for just walked through that door

From this day, from this hour, from this minute, from this "I do"
Every morning I wake up is a morning I wake up next to you
From this day, from this moment, look around, it's already true
From this day, and every day after, it's me and you
(From this day)

Look at the faces in the front row, look at the tears nobody planned to cry
Look at the ring, feel the weight of it, that's a promise you can hold, not a promise that goes by
Now the music's slowing down, and the floor is clearing, and it's just us in the light
And as we take that first dance, you can feel the rest of your life holding you tight

Two cups on the counter, and I said "when," not "if"
And "when" is standing right here in a white dress, that's what today is
Every stone I carried, every door that wouldn't move
Was only ever walking me here, to this room, to you

From this day, from this hour, from this minute, from this "I do"
Every morning I wake up is a morning I wake up next to you
From this day, from this moment, look around, it's already true
From this day, and every day after, it's me and you
From this day, and every day after
From this day, and every day after
It's me and you
(From this day)

Set The Pace

A remix of From This Day

The reception version. Same room, same night, the doors open and everybody's on their feet.

Lyrics

Yeah, we came in ready, whole room on ten
One step forward, bring it back again

Walk through the door, got a plan in motion
Hands up high, let the whole floor open
Quick with the words and I move with precision
Every new turn got the crowd on a mission
No slow lane, I was built for the sprint
Big bold step, leave a mark when I hit
You bring the spark, I bring gasoline
One good night and we own this scene

If you feel that pull, don't wait around
Let it take your feet, let it shake the ground
Count it up, one, two, make it all ignite
We're taking this moment and making it ours tonight

Go, go, turn it up, let it carry us away
Move, move, we're alive, make it count, make it stay
Hands high, hearts loud, everybody in the place
We don't come to stand still, we came to set the pace

I keep that focus when the pressure gets louder
Step with the crew and we move like a powder keg, powder
Fresh on the beat, every bar got a purpose
Cut through the room with a grin and a flourish
You got that fire, I can tell by your stride
No need to ask, you're already inside
Say what you want, then you back it with action
Tonight's got a pulse and we're driving the traction

If you feel that pull, don't wait around
Let it take your feet, let it shake the ground
Count it up, one, two, make it all ignite
We're taking this moment and making it ours tonight

Go, go, turn it up, let it carry us away
Move, move, we're alive, make it count, make it stay
Hands high, hearts loud, everybody in the place
We don't come to stand still, we came to set the pace

No looking back, no sitting this out
You know what we came for, say it out loud
One more round, let the whole room move
When I say go, you know what to do

Go, go, turn it up, let it carry us away
Move, move, we're alive, make it count, make it stay
Hands high, hearts loud, everybody in the place
We don't come to stand still, we came to set the pace

Set the pace, let it ride
All night, all night

Free and Clear

From the book Free and Clear

The first song. Setting down what you carried like a suitcase with a broken handle.

Lyrics

You don't know how heavy it is. Not until you set it down.

I carried us like a suitcase with a broken handle
Dragged it down the road, more than I could handle
Kept on smiling so nobody would see
How much holding on was taking out of me

I gave and I gave till the giving ran dry
Kept watering a garden that had already died

Now I'm free and clear
Nothing on my shoulders, nothing left to fear
What it cost me, I paid in tears
But I can breathe again, I'm free and clear
(Free... and clear)

Four walls full of echoes, a key that fits no door
I sat there in the silence, asked what I was fighting for
Pride kept me standing, fear kept me there
The one I let down most was the man in the mirror

Nobody tells you freedom feels like loss at first
An empty room, a quiet phone, a blessing dressed as hurt
But the man who walks out of this fire
Already knows he's going higher

Nobody tells you about the morning after. Coffee for one, and the sun came up like it didn't hear.

Lyrics

Nobody tells you about the morning after. So let me tell you.

Woke up on the left side out of habit
Reached across the bed for what I haven't had in
Longer than I'm ready to admit
Coffee for one, and the quiet just sits

They said the hard part was the leaving
Nobody warned me 'bout the morning

It's the day after, and I'm still here
Sun came up like it didn't hear
My whole world end last night
It's the day after, and I can't pretend
That it don't hurt, but it's not the end
I'm gon' feel it all till I feel alright
The day after... first day of my life

Your side of the closet's just hangers and air
I keep learning the shape of what isn't there
Phone in my hand, thumb over your name
But calling you back just restarts the pain

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh... oh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh... oh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh... oh

I gave you everything I had in me!
Every piece, every prayer, every part of me!
And I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry
But I'm still standing, and I don't know why
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh... oh)
No, I'm still standing, so I'm gonna try

Hurt is like the rain, it don't stay the same
I'm not drowning, I'm just standing in the rain
And every day after this one gets lighter
Same man, just a little bit wiser

Last Page

From the book Free and Clear

The closed door, and the last page of the story of you and me. Letting go isn't losing.

Lyrics

I never thought I'd be the one to say it. But here it is.

I kept the porch light on a year past reason
Told myself that love just has a slower season
Held the door so long my arms forgot to fall
Now I'm learning how to stand with nothing there at all

I gave you every version of me
Even the ones that were breaking me

So this is the last page
Of the story of you and me
I loved you loud, I loved you true
Now I gotta love me enough to be through
This is the last page
I gotta close it so my heart can be free
It's tearing me apart to say we're done
But I can't carry two hearts with one

Every day I come home to the same closed door
You're right there behind it, but you're not here anymore
I used to stand there hoping, hand raised to knock
But a heart that's closed is tighter than any lock
They say time's a healer. Time's also a thief
Took the us I believed in and left me the grief

I'm not mad at you. I'm not even mad at me.
I stopped knocking. Not because I stopped loving you.
I just finally understand: letting go ain't losing.

Lord, give me the strength to mean what I say
To bless you, release you, and walk away
'Cause the man on the other side of this door
Is the one I've been waiting for

Same Kitchen

From the book The Day After

Everybody's got that restaurant, the one that made you sick. The "sorry" you were waiting on is a coupon for a free meal from the same kitchen.

Lyrics

Everybody's got that restaurant. The one that made you sick.
You went in hungry, trusting, and you left there feeling sick
Then you went back the next week, 'cause the sign out front looked nice
And the menu promised something good, so you paid the same price twice
Twenty-some years I sat at that table, waiting on my plate
And every time it came out wrong, I said "next time, I'll wait"
Sent it back, they warmed it over, brought the same soup to my seat
I was starving in a restaurant with a full plate I couldn't eat

They won't cook it right. They can't cook it right.
And even if they did tonight, I'm not eating there again.

Same kitchen (same kitchen!)
Same cook (same cook!)
Same soup warmed over, and I already took a look
They won't (they won't!)
They can't (they can't!)
And even if they could, I'm not sitting down again
I'm not sitting down again
I'm not sitting down again

It's the job that let you go, then called you back for the same desk
Same boss, same lie, same "we'll do better," same old mess
It's the landlord with the leaky roof, "sign the lease, we fixed it this time"
And you're up at 3 a.m. with a bucket, same drip, same dime
Be careful what you pray for, 'cause you just might get the call
And the night you get exactly what you asked for is the worst night of them all
'Cause the "sorry" I was waiting on is a coupon for a free meal
From the same kitchen that made me sick. And that's the whole deal.

And to the one still at the table, napkin in your lap
Waiting on the kitchen door to open, telling yourself "maybe this time, maybe that"
Hear me: the plate ain't coming. And if it came, you'd get sick.
You're not waiting on a meal, you're waiting on a trick.
The day you stop wanting that plate is the day you finally eat
Get up. Push the chair in. There's a whole city, and there's food down the street.

I'm not mad the plate ain't coming, I'm not begging for the check
I'm relieved, 'cause if it came out right, I'd be right back there next
I left the tip. I left the table. I left the whole address.
And I'm eating good tonight somewhere that never made me sick

They won't. They can't. I don't want it.
I'm eating somewhere else. And I'm full.

Same kitchen (same kitchen!)
Same cook (same cook!)
Same soup warmed over, and I already took a look
They won't (they won't!)
They can't (they can't!)
And even if they could, I'm not sitting down again
I'm not sitting down again
I'm not sitting down again
(Same kitchen!) I'm full
(Same cook!) I'm gone

Unhurried

From the book After Hi.

A slow one for a Sunday with nowhere to be. Everything you came here looking for is already looking for you.

Lyrics

Lamp turned low
Record turning slow
You're smiling, yeah
And you don't know why, do you
Something in you says yes
Before I ask a thing
Like you knew this song already
Like you've always known the words

Unhurried, love
We move unhurried
Like a Sunday with nowhere to be
Unhurried, love
Don't you worry
Everything you came here looking for
Is already looking for you

You don't have to say a word
You don't have to have a plan
You've been strong for everybody
Now you get to just be held
And the softer that you get
The stronger this becomes
Mmm, you feel that, don't you
Yeah, I know you do

Unhurried, love
We move unhurried
Like a Sunday with nowhere to be
Unhurried, love
Don't you worry
Everything you came here looking for
Is already looking for you

Years from now you'll tell somebody
How it started on a night like this
And you'll smile the way you're smiling now
And they'll know exactly why

No rush.
We've got all Sunday.

Unhurried (mmm)
Unhurried (no rush, love)
Like a Sunday (nowhere to be)
Unhurried

Where they came from
