A guided session for leaving your comfort zone. We hold on to the familiar even when we don't like it, because known-bad feels safer than unknown. The way out isn't duty. It's wanting.
Let me say something about the familiar before we start.
Doing what you know feels safe. Same way to work, same lunch, same three people you talk to, same chair at night. Some people find a routine in their twenties and run it until they die. And you've felt that little pull in your chest when you think about changing something: the work, a hobby, a new relationship, a different social life. What if I'm no good at it. What if it doesn't work. It's a step into the dark.
Here's the strange part. The familiar isn't just the good stuff. You're also familiar with your problems. The things you'd love to be rid of. And we hold on to those too, because known-bad feels safer than unknown. That's not weakness; it's old wiring. An animal that sticks to what it knows survives. But there's other wiring in you that's just as old: the part that's curious, that wants to go see. And when you feed only the safe part, the curious part sits there unfed, year after year, and you try to quiet it with the TV, and the TV becomes one more routine.
The fix is smaller than you'd think. Not a mountain. One different thing a day. A different road to work. Something off the menu you've never ordered. A conversation with somebody you'd normally nod at. Small acts, done on purpose, and the curious part wakes back up. And the things that used to feel scary, at work, with people, with the thing you've always wanted to try, start feeling like somewhere you'd like to go.
That's where this session takes you. Not by telling you that you should. Should doesn't open anything. You'll see what I mean.
Get comfortable. Eyes open or closed, your choice. If they're open, rest them low, half shut. If they're closed, let them get heavy.
The sessions are becoming a book, Be Clear: every talk and every script, so you can read them at your own pace or record them in your own voice. Leave your email and the first chapter comes to you now, and a note when the book is out. Nothing else, ever.
